Fraunhofer FIRST will present TPEG™-services for mobile devices at the CeBIT 2011

February 25, 2011

At the CeBIT, Fraunhofer FIRST will demonstrate the implementation of TPEG services on mobile devices (Android), for the first time ever.

The mobile implementation is based on Fraunhofer FIRST’s TPEGTM DEKODER KIT. TPEGTM data can be received, decoded and analyzed with this software package. With little memory requirements, it facilitates the management of TPEGTM messages and makes them available to subsequent applications (navigation, travel guides, etc.). Intelligent processes reduce system requirements when decoding the binary TPEGTM protocol. The decoding depth is tailored to the respective application, i.e. only data necessary for the application are decoded. The remainder is neither processed nor stored.

Data management was realized on the user’s side: a memory-resident database monitors the creation, updating and deletion of news objects and offers current information. The subsequent applications have easy access to the database and can select traffic information according to regional, temporal or semantic criteria.

The software can generate readable text and/or data from all relevant information for further processing.

At CeBIT, Hall 7, Booth A 28, Destination ITS, researchers at Fraunhofer will demonstrate the implementation of the TPEGTM DEKODER KIT on an Android mobile phone with traffic news for the greater Berlin area as well as current traffic warnings for Lower Saxony.
