Thomas Kusche presents TISA during the EBU Radio week in Geneva

At the occasion of the annual “Radio Week” organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), TISA’s President Thomas Kusche was invited to speak at the Digital Radio Summit on 11 February in Geneva.
The Digital Radio Summit brought together 110 experts in the radio community from 25 different countries to discuss the latest technology updates in digital and hybrid radio and look over its future developments.

ITS Corridor – Workshop on Road Works Warning Service via multiple Service Providers

A workshop on the Road Works Warning Service in Germany was organised on 26 February 2015, within the framework of the initiative of Germany, Austria and the Netherlands to deploy cooperative ITS in the C-ITS Corridor Rotterdam – Frankfurt/Main – Vienna.
The use of two cooperative ITS services is foreseen, thanks to communication from the vehicle and infrastructure via short range communication (Wifi 802.11p, 5.9GHz) or the cellular network (3G, 4G). Both initial applications will increase road safety and provide the basis for an improved traffic flow in this C-ITS Corridor.

TPEG Seminar/Workshop on 12 May 2015 in Munich

Bayerische Medien Technik (Bmt) is organising, in cooperation with TISA, the workshop “Getting in touch with TPEG”. It will be held on 12 May 2015 in Munich (Germany) and its focus will be on explaining to technicians and engineers from the automotive industry the TPEG protocol for the transmission of travel and traffic information.

“Does TTI need Hybrid Delivery?”

Bev Marks writes: “I have a short story emanating from the UK but, I believe, with issues that TISA should consider for all markets. Recently T-Mobile announced a significant change in their tariff for data download to mobile phones; indeed a “data cap” has been introduced and this has really woken up the radio futurologists. Their calculation about the cost of data to mobile phones has some interesting lessons for us in the TTI domain. According to my calculations we only require about 1/8 of the data that radio listening needs, for continuous TTI services. Nevertheless all this points more strongly, in my eyes, to the need for TISA to welcome the broadcast industries current enthusiasm for radio to be delivered as a “hybrid solution” – with both broadcast and IP technologies being used to provide the end-user experience – may I propose that this also applies to

European Commission adopts new rules to improve EU-wide traffic information services for road users

The European Commission has adopted new rules which will help provide road users across the EU with more accurate, accessible and up-to-date traffic information related to their journeys (Real-Time Traffic Information). This can include information about expected delays, estimated travel times, information about accidents, road works and road closures, warnings about weather conditions and any other relevant information. Such information can be delivered to drivers through multiple channels: variable message signs, radio traffic message channels, smartphones, navigation devices, etc.
