Successful RTTI 5-Star Rating Evaluation Methodology Workshop

What an intensive workshop we had in Brussels !

Ensuring accuracy, availability and reliability of real-time traffic information (RTTI) is the core of TISA’s mission and also that of our public and private members.

While the draft TISA RTTI 5-star rating standard for speed limits, road work and road closures is undergoing its first review cycle within the ITS community, we have already kicked off the work on the evaluation methodology standard – how do you evaluate the quality of traffic data in practice to determine if it meets minimum quality requirements?

The RTTI 5-Star Rating Evaluation Methodology Workshop took place on 5th March in Brussels, bringing together over 40 leading experts from the industry and public authorities.

Many thanks go also to all RTTI leaders and #experts for sharing their experiences with the wider audience, especially:

** Finn Tore Johansen spoke about the work done by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration on this topic.

** Peter Lubrich from BASt presented the NAPCORE work on quality assessments for data on National Access Points NAPs, using truck parking data as a prime example.

** Anna Forsell from Trafikverket highlighted the work in Sweden on quality assessment of static speed limit data in the national road database.

** Konrad Latosiewicz and Stephanie Leonard highlighted the current TomTom process to evaluate public traffic data feeds and ideas of how to best implement the 5-star rating standard in the future

Finally, the day ended with groups rotating on three breakout discussions as a first step to start designing the RTTI evaluation methodology for the 3 priority use cases.

  • Speed Limits
  • Road Works, and
  • Road Closures

Many more valuable insights were created during the day. To learn more about the outcomes of the workshop and to join the work, contact Stephanie Chaufton from TISA Executive Office.
