TPEG is a set of protocols and standards designed to support the exchange of various types of travel and traffic-related information over digital networks, such as mobile internet or digital radio. It is a standardised, modular, and language independent method.

WHY TPEG?

TPEG addresses key challenges in informing travellers about unusual or safety-related traffic and travel situations, as follows:

  • Travellers may not speak the local language (nor English necessarily),
  • Travellers may be unfamiliar with the local geography and its naming,
  • Travellers may be driving, hence must keep their eyes on the road,
  • Travellers may travel long distance, possibly crossing multiple regions or countries.

Providing safe-to-use and consistent traffic and travel information hence requires special considerations. TPEG technology was developed specifically for helping travellers to understand the information (also when abroad), helping them to understand the impact on their travel itinerary, and this in a consistent way across regions and countries, while avoiding driving distraction.

“TPEG enables safe-to-use and consistent delivery of useful traffic information, and easily comprehensible travel information.”
