Day 1 Recap - TISA Committee Meetings - 17 March, Madrid

Real-Time Traffic Information (RTTI) and data quality took centre stage yesterday during the 5-Star ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating Workshop on day one of the TISA Committee Meetings in Madrid.

Hosted by Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT), the session brought together traffic authorities, ITS companies, and mobility data providers from Spain , other parts of Europe and the United States to explore how the 5-Star Rating framework can strengthen the quality and reliability of real-time traffic data.

Xabier Gago from Xouba - Data for Safer Roads shared valuable insights from their 5-Star Rating pilot on digital Speed Limits, while Montse Estaca presented DGT’s work on connected cones. Rounding up the review of leading RTTI developments in Spain, Jose Manuel Martínez of ETRA highlighted digital traffic management developments in Vigo. Antoine van der Laan followed, providing status updates on the ongoing work in the TISA Evaluation Methodology.

The workshop continued in the late afternoon with a very informative presentation from Shawn Turner of the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, who shared how the United States is strengthening data quality through federal incentives and collaboration with data providers.
Bart Lannoo from Be-Mobile, ended the meeting with a presentation on how floating car data and road user feedback can support the 5-Star Rating evaluation.
