Fresh insights from the Open Auto Drive Forum

The Open Auto Drive Forum welcomed 50+ participants, both in person and online.

Following a very interesting keynote by Takuya (Tony) Taniguchi, Director of Dynamic Map Platform Co., Ltd. (DMP) Europe, Carsten Schroeder of Elektrobit presented the ADASIS startup kit and Ottó Nyírő of Navigation Data Standard (NDS) e.V. introduced the NDS evaluation access. The morning was rounded off by a detailed discussion of the OADF use cases that will be elaborated in the coming months. The afternoon was reserved for on-site participants and featured workshops with an in-depth treatment of two of the use cases:

⚠️ Local Hazard Warning

  • Location referencing is still a challenge, in particular in the context with Automated Driving (AD) use cases regarding lane-level accuracy
  • Evaluation of data from different sources is still perceived as difficult, specifically for correlating data inputs to increase confidence and reduce false alarms

🚘 Intelligent Speed Assistant

  • Standards and technical solutions are ready, challenging is still the broad availability of data in order to create the necessary confidence
  • Closing the data loop, e.g. by using SENSORIS, could assist in data validation

🙌 Overall impressions from the OADF meeting

  • Feedback from participants was highly positive, specifically regarding OADF bringing different organisations together, filling technology gaps, harmonising standards and making the OADF ecosystem work as a whole
  • The group reiterated the ‘open door’ policy, inviting other standardisation organisations and stakeholders to join
  • Generally, participants agreed that the development and implementation takes considerable time and effort, ITS business is ‘a marathon and not a sprint’

We also like to take the opportunity to thank ERTICO - ITS Europe for hosting this engaging event!
