TISA General Assembly & Committee Meetings 2025

Welcoming our TISA members to the yearly General Assembly and the TISA Committee meetings is one of the highlights of the year!
On 2 - 3 June 2025, our members gathered in beautiful Brussels.

During these two days were highlights of TISA's achievements from the past 12 months, agreements made on our planned activities for the coming year, and reflection on our vision, mission and strategy.
As always, we strive towards a world where traffic and travel information is 100% correct,100% of the time on all roads.

We were also thrilled to welcome external speakers:

-  David Ward, President Emeritus, Global NCAP

-  Dr. Jakob Lohmann, European Commission, DG Move

-  M. Ali Arman, KU Leuven, University of Leuven

-  José Carlos Valdecantos, XOUBA

Exciting keynote speeches from the committee meetings on 3 June were delivered by:

  •  José Carlos Valdecantos from Xouba who presented their work, which is focusing on the evaluation of vehicle-based sensor data for optimising traffic flows, detecting parts of the road network with safety issues, monitoring road quality and surface conditions (e.g. ice and snow), supporting road maintenance and monitoring traffic-related data quality. XOUBA works closely with Road Operators and Public Authorities in Spain and are planning to expand operations to other countries.
  •  M. Ali Arman from KU Leuven presented their approach towards using loop detector data to analyze crashes and optimising speed advice on VMS signs. Mr. Arman spoke about the importance of the TAILOR raw dataset, traffic flow crystallisation and multiple applications. He emphasised that crash records can be quite inaccurate and the importance of long-range tactical driving style analysis in that context. Finally Mr. Arman also covered the topic of using Triple-Stream Neural Network (TSNN) architecture for dynamic traffic management.
  •  Last, but far from least - Joseph Siegl from MeteoAlarm presented on the Public/Private Partnership for delivering high quality weather warning events.  He also pointed out the collaboration with TISA, and appreciated TISA’s efforts of delivering relevant traffic-related severe weather warnings into vehicles for informing drivers. The TPEG2-EAW protocol was specifically developed for that purpose.

Participants also got an opportunity to get latest updates on Functional Road Classification (FRC), where TISA does not aim to re-invent or standardise FRCs, the focus is on harmonisation and interoperability. Location Referencing (LR) Task Force which is addressing location referencing challenges across maps, and Current Activities in cooperation with the Open Auto Driving Forum (OADF).

As we wrapped up these two highly fruitful days, we would again like to thank all participants for joining us in Brussels!
