Parking space occupancy and alternative options for truck drivers

The free app Truck Parking Europe will, as of now, contain occupancy data for 23 parking spaces on the A9 between Nuremberg and Munich. The data comes from information platform bayerninfo.de, run by the Bavarian Traffic Information Agency (VIB). And if all parking spaces are full, the app assists truck drivers in finding parking options in the immediate area.

A new truck parking information system, which will be installed at 23 rest areas, petrol and service stations along the A9 between Nuremberg and Munich by the end of 2016, collects data for the VIB. The VIB uses bayerninfo.de to support drivers with information about roadworks, traffic flow and traffic reports. Their data on parking space occupancy, still in real time, has been added to Truck Parking Europe, which truck drivers across Europe can use to search for truck parking, make informed route decisions and add or edit parking options themselves.

The app, available for iOS and Android, gives access to the largest European platform for truck parking. With over 18,000 pieces of data at present, the constantly expanding database contains both officially designated lorry parking spaces and car parks and suitable parking spaces off the motorway, such as truck stops or restaurants which offer truck parking. The result – even if on an evening, for example, the 23 parking spaces on the A9 are already full, drivers can use the app to search for parking nearby. As they travel, drivers are shown a list of all parking options along their route. Parking options are constantly updated and verified by the Truck Parking Europe community and editorial team.
