TISA Committees Meetings in Seattle

March 25, 2013

On 19 and 20 March, TISA Members had the great opportunity to meet in Seattle on the occasion of the Committees Meetings. Every year the Traveller Information Services Association committees meet 3 times in Europe and, once a year, either in Asia or the Americas. “Having these meetings in the USA was particularly relevant, as many US members had the opportunity to get involved in TISA’s work and be informed about current TISA activities” Matthias Unbehaun, TISA Executive Director stated.A very interesting part of this event was the technical visit to the DOT Traffic Management Centre  in the northern part of Seattle.

A very interesting part of this event was the technical visit to the DOT Traffic Management Centre  in the northern part of Seattle. The centre covers a large area of the freeway with over 130 traffic cameras that produce real-time traffic information  helping travellers to evaluate the best travel options. The centre uses, among others, CCTV connections to monitor intersections, independent control and real-time monitoring of signalised corridors, as well as control of variable message signs (for more info please refer to www.seattle.gov/transportation/signalcenter.htm).

On 20 March, a special information session on TMC and TPEGTMtechnologies and standardization progress took place with very interesting presentations given by TISA members operating TMC or TPEGTMservices. Speakers included Robert Cahn (Group Manager Platform Development) and Dave Francis (Technical Director) from INRIX; Mark Saunders, Senior Systems Specialist Engineer from NOKIA; Len Konecny, Vice President of ClearChannel; and Girish Warrier, Director, Advanced Services for iBiquity.

The TISA Committees Meetings in Seattle were hosted by TISA Member INRIX.
The TISA General Assembly and the next committees meetings will take place on 25 June 2013 in Brussels.
